Justin Daves, Director
Justin serves as the Director of CHASS IT. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.A. in History. Justin joined CHASS IT in 1998. Prior to becoming Director, he served as Associate Director. In addition, he has previously held positions as Head Programmer and Network Computing Technician. He was also the 2004 CHASS SPA Award for Excellence winner for his efforts in saving the college money on IT expenditures, improving IT assistance response time, and assisting with the development of an online credit card donation system for the college.
Applications and Web Development
Chris Smith, Applications/Web Developer
Chris is currently employed as an Applications/Web Developer for CHASS IT, and began that role in September of 2008. Previously, he worked as a work-study for the department serving as a Network Computing Technician. He is pursuing degrees in Computer Science and Technology Education at NCSU. Prior to joining CHASS IT in Fall 2004, Chris volunteered his services to people and organizations in the community. As a member of CHASS IT, he has recently worked to help in upgrading the college web servers, updating and maintaining web applications, and troubleshoots a variety of IT problems.
Carrie Bekerman, Applications/Web Developer
Carrie joined CHASS IT in March of 2009. She graduated from North Carolina State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Computer Science. Carrie had previously worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia for six years as a Computer Scientist. During her time in Virginia, she also completed her M.S. in Computer Science from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Erik Dahlgren, Systems Programmer
Erik has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Lund University in Sweden. As a part of that degree, he spent two years as an exchange student at North Carolina State University. Upon completion of his degree he worked as a Research Programmer for the Computer Science Department at North Carolina State University. He joined CHASS IT in 2004 as the Web Developer and Program Coordinator for the new distance education program at CHASS.
Technology Support
Garrett Hobbs, Computer Consultant
Garrett graduated from North Carolina State University in 2002 with a B.S. in Computer Science and with a strong background in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He joined CHASS IT in 2002 as a Network Computing Technician. Now, he serves as a Computing Consultant for both CHASS IT and the Department of Sociology & Anthropology. Garrett is the architect and manager of the CHASS wireless network which provides wireless access to Tompkins, Caldwell, Winston, and 1911 buildings. Currently, Garrett is deeply involved in creating the training sessions for CHASS faculty, staff, and students provided by CHASS IT.
Scott Maddox, Computer Consultant
Scott served in the U.S. Army as a Medic from 1989-1993 and was stationed in Texas and Germany. He went on to earn a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 1999. While attending college, he worked at the VA Hospital as a lab technician/supertech from 1994-2002 and served in the Texas National Guard as a Medic from 1994-1997. He received his computer training from Southern Methodist University where he earned a certificate in MCSE. He is certified in A+, Network + and MCP. Scott began working for CHASS IT upon moving to North Carolina from Texas in 2002.
Scottie Mayes, Computer Consultant
Scottie joined CHASS IT in May 2006 and prior to that he worked at the North Carolina School of the Arts IT department in Winston-Salem as a Technical Support Analyst. Scottie graduated from Winston-Salem State University in 2004 with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. While at WSSU, he served as an intern with the IT department and volunteered his services for faculty and students.
Marcus Wagnborg, Network Computer Technician
Marcus is currently a student working with CHASS IT as a Computer Technician. As of 2005 he is a freshman studying toward degrees in electrical and aerospace engineering at NCSU. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden and consequently studied there through 6th grade. He then moved to Chapel Hill, where he later attended Chapel Hill High School and studied Networking and Web design while helping to maintain the school's website. As a member of CHASS IT, he helps troubleshoot a variety of IT problems.
Amal Raj, Network Computing Technician
Amal is currently a student working with CHASS IT. He is currently working towards his masters degree in Computer Engineering. Amal joined CHASS IT in the Fall of 2008.
Instructional Support
Robert Kadle, Instructional Technology Analyst
Bob has an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Religion from Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia . He also holds two masters degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth , Texas . His multifaceted career path has involved him as a college instructor and administrator, a church educator and administrator, a counselor of at-risk youth, a secondary school headmaster, and a small business owner. After completing a certificate in Advanced Computer Networking from Duke University and receiving his MCSE and MCP+I certifications, Bob joined CHASS in 2001.
Vijay Tailor, Systems Administrator
Vijay joined CHASS IT in January of 2006 and prior to that he worked with Warp Systems/Computers in Raleigh, LLC as a Technical Support Manager. Vijay graduated from North Maharashtra University, India in 1996 with a B.S in Electronics and Telecommunication. Prior to coming to the United States, Vijay worked in the field of Telecommunication, Computer Hardware and networking. His certifications include SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programmer) and MCP.
Operations & Systems
Dave DuRoss, Operations & Systems Analyst
Dave currently serves as an Operations & Systems Analyst, and began this role in October of 2008. He received his degree in Technology Education with a minor in Graphic Communications in 2007 from NCSU. Dave previously worked with CHASS IT from 2003 to 2007 as a Network Computing Technician. In addition to having worked with CHASS IT, Dave has been a private tutor, an attendent in the woodshop at the NCSU Craft Center, and he most recently worked with North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union as an E-Learning Developer. As a member of CHASS IT, he currently works to design, implement, and support the various systems and server infrastructure within the college.
Daniel Henninger, Operations & Systems Specialist
Daniel serves as an Operations & Systems Specialist, as of December 2008. He previously worked as an Operations & Systems Specialist with the Office of Information Technology for 9 years, before leaving the university for a one year stint as a Software Engineer with Jive Software. He has a B.S. in Computer Science from NCSU and works on a number of open source projects in his spare time. He currently works to design, implement, and support the various systems and server infrastructure within the college.
