Capturing
CHASS IT supports two capturing technologies in the classrooms, labs and conferences rooms around the college.
Panopto
Panopto is an audio and video capture system that allows you to record lectures and presentations for online learning, training, special campus events (like a symposium or alumni relations), or streaming media for websites.
How does it work?
Panopto recorders are integrated with existing classroom setup. Classes are recorded automatically by Delta using information provided to them by Registration and Records. If you are not in a room that has a class scheduled and want to record your class, you can by accessing the computer in the lectern and opening the Panopto icon on the desktop. It will have you login with your Unity ID and Password then you will see the record button on the screen, it will start capturing, encoding, and synchronizing content from the camera and any device instructors choose from the touch panel which can be pc, laptop, document camera or DVD. The recording can be stopped by pressing the stop button on the computer screen. The recorded presentation will appear in your Panopto “My Folder” located https://ncsu.hosted.panopto.com/ and can then be shared for viewing.
Why use it?
Panopto can be used for variety of purposes like the following:
- Distance learning
- Lecture Review
- Self-guided study
- Campus virtual tours
- Study abroad introduction
- Keynote speaker address
- Conference presentations
Locations
Recording Office/Studio:
The recording office/studio setup in Winston 309A can be scheduled for individual sessions. This is primarily used for distance education sections of courses.
To reserve the WN 309A recording studio, please send an email to chass_it@ncsu.edu
Classrooms/Labs:
In addition to the recording office/studio, several classrooms and instructional labs have Panopto recorders installed in them.
Having the technology in these areas allows for hybrid sections of courses (where there are both traditional in-class students and distance education students) and/or for the ability to record lectures in order to make them available as a review resource for students.
Visit the Classroom Technology page to see where Panopto is installed.
If you would like to receive training on the Panopto system, please send an email to chass_it@ncsu.edu from your university email address.

How does it work?
CHASS has integrated the polycom video conferencing unit with the current Class Tech setup in different locations across campus. The video confercence will work best if the remote site has a video conference unit similar to Polycom. In order to initiate the conference, we recommed asking for the IP address of the remote site so you will be able to initiate the video conference session. CHASS-IT will help provide our IP address if participants at the remote site want to initiate the session.
