Section 7: Templates and Themes

Although you have the option of formatting your presentation manually, PowerPoint 2013 makes it easy for you to create presentations from templates, as well as to change the formatting of your slides quickly by using themes. You have the option of choosing from among the pre-installed templates and themes, as well as searching for others in Microsoft's online database.

Choosing a Presentation Template

Templates are accessible in PowerPoint immediately after opening the program. If you are already in PowerPoint, you can access them by clicking on the FILE tab in the ribbon menu, and selecting New from the menu on the left. To search for a different template, simply click inside of the search bar, type in what you are looking for, and press the Enter key.

After a few seconds, PowerPoint will bring up any templates relevant to your search, which it has found in Microsoft's online database. Select the template you would like to use by clicking on it.

PowerPoint will then give you a preview of what your template will look like. To see what the different types of slides will look like, click on the arrow next to More Images under the preview. When you are certain that this is the template you would like to use, click Create.

Themes

If you have already begun your presentation, but you have decided that you would like to have a different formatting scheme, you can use the Themes function.
