Section 13: Symbols
When creating a document, sometimes you will need a particular symbol or character that is not easily entered on the keyboard. This is where the Word 2013 symbol feature is very useful. In this section of the tutorial we will cover how to insert special characters into your document.
Inserting Symbols

Step 1. Click on the INSERT tab on the left side of the ribbon menu, and select Symbol, which will be on the right of the ribbon menu. A drop-down menu will appear, giving you a selection of recently used symbols. If none of these are what you are looking for, click More Symbols.

Step 2. The Symbol window will appear, giving you many options for different symbols. Select the one you would like to insert, and click on the Insert button.
